Marine Container Transportation
Over the course of the past decade, international sea freight has gained a relatively high position in terms of international traffic.
The reasons for the growth are the rapid pace of economic relations between such countries as Europe, Asia and the Americas. Of all the suppliers, People’s Republic of China continues to be the global market absolute leader. For this particular reason, sea shipping from China remains increasingly popular and it continues to increase its pace quite rapidly.
Sea shipping is carried out through the main ports of Russia: St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Nakhodka, Vladivostok. Most of the cargo is transported in sea containers.
Container is the most convenient and protected transport container, in which cargo is transported is almost not affected by external influences, and which allows you to quickly perform loading and unloading operations at transshipment points in sea ports and railway stations.
Thanks to the use of them, it was possible not only to speed up transportation and cargo handling procedures, but also to significantly reduce the cost of transportation. From 1956 to 2018 the cost of marine cargo transportation has decreased by more than 36 times.
Cargo Sea Transportation
Cargo Sea Transportation is rightfully considered to be one of the most reliable and convenient types of cargo transportation. Loss or damage of cargo as a result of accidents or natural disasters makes up not more than 1.5%.
The convenience of shipping cargoes by sea is stipulated by the development of sea routes, including transcontinental ones, and allows moving goods from any country of the world. Moreover, for some regions shipping is the only possible way to receive and send freight. Carrying capacity and tonnage of sea-going ships are many times higher than other means of transport. Therefore, given a wide geographical coverage, sea transport is regarded as the most advantageous in terms of cost-to-time ratio. In shipping a whole line of special containers for transportation of goods of different types is used. These are the parameters:
- Size: 20-ft, 40-ft, 45-ft containers.
- Types: Dry Van, High Cube, Open Top, Reefer, Tank, Flat Rack, etc.
The following terms apply for payment of freight in international shipping:
- Pre-paid – freight is paid by shipper (delivery terms CFR, CIF, CIP, CPT, DAT, DAP, DDP).
- Collect – freight is paid by consignee (delivery terms FOB, FAS, FCA, EXW).
Sea shipping freight rates may include terminal handling costs, formed from the various types of quotations, including:
- FIFO (from Free In / Free Out) – Freight rate does not include: loading, unloading.
- FILO (от Free In / Liner Out) – Freight rate includes only unloading at destination port.
